Sonja El Demerdash is a composer, singer and songwriter born and raised in Berlin.
After she studied Media Composing at SET Cologne, she began her career crafting compositions on piano, writing songs, singing vocals and posting her work online. This led her to be contacted by New York-based Heavy Pictures to compose music for Jameson’s “Drinking Buddies” campaign, the brainchild of world-renowned Creative Director Casey McGrath
Her efforts led to her being commissioned to create music for the opioid awareness film “Hey, Charlie” which was shortlisted at the Cannes Film Festival. Sonja then scored the documentary “Empire of Pain” for Darren Aronofsky’s commercial production company Chromista, and created all the music for the pilot of broadway director Tony Taccone’s “Latin History For Morons” starring John Leguizamo.
Sonja went on to score two feature films in 2021 and 2022. “Distance”, directed by Lars Knorrn starring Aleksandar Jovanovic, in competition at the International Film Festival of India and Shanghai, and “Soulstrip", directed by Michael Pate, in competition at the Kitzbühel Austria Film Festival.
Most recently, Sonja scored an entire campaign for Four Walls Irish American Whiskey for Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton, creators and stars of the longest running sitcom in television history “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia”, and the wildly popular television series “Welcome to Wrexham”. The Four Walls campaign launched in October to rave reviews and has been featured in Best Ads On Tv and Muse by Clio. Her Four Walls theme music was also featured in Episode 13 of “Welcome to Wrexham” in early November, 2023.
Other commercial clients include Nike, Avion Tequila, Academy Sports, Martell, and Mumm.
Sonja's first EP as singer/songwriter will be released soon, with tracks already featured in the films “Distance" and “Soulstrip".
